Waste heat recovery systems now an integral part of FLSmidth’s offerings

Facing rising operating costs, industrial companies around the world are looking to cut down their power consumption. But cutting consumption is not the only option. Now FLSmidth is offering comprehensive waste heat recovery (WHR) systems that can be applied to new or existing cement or minerals plants. Although a new part of FLSmidth’s offerings, the WHR system is proven technology that supplies a significant part of a plant’s power needs at no extra fuel cost, reduces its carbon footprint and saves precious water.

Hands-on design by an industry legend

John S. Frater is a legend in the mining industry. With years of experience designing pumps for the mining industry, he is renowned for his millMAX pump that raised the efficiency of minerals mining at the end of the last century. John has endured company mergers, relocation and long periods away from his family to fulfil his ambitions. And today, his designs continue to enjoy industry recognition and commercial success.

Going for the gold

In mid-December 2009, FLSmidth acquired Utah-based Summit Valley Equipment & Engineering (SVEE) to continue building on its experience in precious metals recovery. SVEE designs and fabricates modular plants and equipment used for the extraction of gold and silver. With gold prices rallying 24% during 2009 and witnessing the climbing prices over the last few months, Summit Valley becomes a strategic investment for carrying FLSmidth forward in the precious minerals sector.
