New portal scraper reclaimer in Mexico

In July 2014, FLSmidth Wadgassen was awarded a contract worth approximately 2.1m Euro by OHL Industrial, a division of Obrascón Huarte Lain (OHL), for the supply of a portal scraper reclaimer for the company P.M.I. (subsidiary of Pemex). This portal scraper reclaimer will be installed at the sulphur solidification and handling plant at Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, which has a throughput of 360,000 tons of sulphur per year.

The portal scraper reclaimer with main and auxiliary boom will travel in a longitudinal direction of the pile and reclaim the sulphur pellets, which will be stacked in a pile by the client's overhead stacking conveyor. The material will be removed from the pile by means of scraper blades and will be conveyed by the belt conveyor, which will be installed parallel to the pile base.

The erection and commissioning of the portal scraper reclaimer will be carried out by OHL under FLSmidth's supervision.

OHL (Obrascón Huarte Lain) is a large international construction group with more than 100 years of history. It specializes in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects, mainly operating in Spain as well as South and Central America.

The main criteria for winning this order was FLSmidth’s ability to deliver the equipment within a short time frame (between 10.5 and 12 months from contract award to FOB) as well as FLSmidth’s know-how and experience in sulphur handling equipment.

This engineering procurement services (EPS) contract is the first cooperation between FLSmidth and OHL in relation to material handling equipment and could lead to other project opportunities in the future.
