In July 2014, FLSmidth was awarded a contract from Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM) for the supply of one bucket wheel reclaimer for its iron ore mine located in Zouerate, Mauritania.

FLSmidth will be responsible for the delivery of a bucket wheel reclaimer on a turnkey basis, including engineering, procurement, delivery, mechanical and electrical installation, and commissioning, as well as training services. Commissioning of the machine is scheduled for April 2016. This new bucket wheel reclaimer will replace the existing bucket wheel reclaimer that was supplied 30 years ago by the former KOCH Transporttechnik GmbH, which is now part of FLSmidth. It is to be installed at the Rouessa mine, one of SNIM's five operating mines around Zouerate.

Within the framework of this capacity extension, FLSmidth is currently installing a train load out at Guelb II Mine (still in Zouerate), as well as commissioning mineral processing equipment at the same site.

SNIM is the world's seventh-largest iron ore exporter, supplying around 13 million tons per year to the world market. The Mauritanian government owns 78% of the company. Prospecting and exploration started in 1967. SNIM has already embarked into a ramp-up of its production, which should increase to 40 million tons per annum in 2020 from the 13 million tons it produces annually today.

The relationship between FLSmidth and Miferma, which is now SNIM, started more than 50 years ago when the KOCH brand supplied a conveying, stacking and loading system for iron ore with a belt conveying system, stacker and wagon loading system. However, the relationship between SNIM and FLSmidth had weakened over the years. But due to the outstanding work executed by FLSmidth's material handling customer service team in supporting SNIM’s operations over the past several years, FLSmidth was able to secure the contract for the supply and installation of two Raptor® 900 cone crushers at the same Rouessa site near the end of 2013.
